GOMOR Review by a Civilian Defense Lawyer

If you have received a General Officer Memorandum of Reprimand (GOMOR), you have various options.  You can write your own response.  You can have a lawyer from Trial Defense Services (TDS) or a Legal Assistance lawyer write a rebuttal letter on your behalf.  Or, you can have a civilian defense attorney help you with the letter.  It is almost never a good idea to write your own response without having it looked over by a lawyer.  But oftentimes, TDS and Legal Assistance lawyers are overwhelmed with their case load and don’t have the time to devote to adequately address the concerns raised in the GOMOR.

Mr. Coombs is able to help you with your GOMOR response letter.  He will look over all the relevant documentation, to include any 15-6 investigation, and help you put your best foot forward in your response letter.  He is attuned to the things that you (or TDS or Legal Assistance lawyers) might not be: the tone of the letter, any inconsistencies in the letter, and any statements that can be misconstrued.  Recently, a client hired Mr. Coombs to review a draft of a rebuttal that was prepared by a military lawyer.  The letter included the expression “dishonored marital vows” which implied that the Soldier had committed adultery—which was most definitively not the case.  These seemingly small things are actually huge when you consider that the placement of a GOMOR in a Soldier’s permanent file can have career-ending implications for the Soldier.

If you would like a civilian defense lawyer’s assistance with a rebuttal, contact Mr. Coombs today.  Mr. Coombs is a civilian defense attorney with over 20 years of experience.  He specializes in defending only Army Soldiers.
