Media
Mr. Coombs’ cases, particularly United States v. Manning and United States v. Akbar, have been subject to extensive media coverage. His cases have been featured in print and broadcast media throughout the world, including such prominent news outlets as The New York Times, The Washington Post, the Associated Press, Time Magazine, NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN, and Fox. The Manning case formed the basis for the documentary “We Steal Secrets” by Oscar-award winning director and producer Alex Gibney and for the movie “The Fifth Estate,” starring Benedict Cumberbatch. Mr. Coombs himself has been profiled by various newspapers, including The New York Times and Reuters.
If your case is high-profile, Mr. Coombs will take his direction from you as to whether, and to what extent, you would like him to involve the media. Mr. Coombs does not believe in trying cases in the media, but feels that there is oftentimes a valuable role for the media to play in exposing wrongdoing.
